  1. This doesn’t seem to me to be anything more than a reflection of:

    a. what impacts business – health spending is not going to make much difference to SMEs

    b. a reflection of short-term needs – education spending may be needed by business in the long-term, but in the short-term it will have no impact.

    This survey is like saying to 30-something mums, which is more important: education for your kids or a higher pension for 80+ year olds? Of course they are going to answer “education”.

  2. I think I would agree IF each type of expenditure was truly ringfenced, but it isn’t and Peter is being made to rob Paul. Also, there isn’t much point in infrastructure if your employees are poorly educated and in poor health. We are constantly being told that we must have ” joined up thinking” or whatever this weeks version of it is (holistic?)and we need to see our area as a whole and not in separate bits as we have in the past. It won’t help if everyone fights only their corner (though I am not saying this is what the article says).
