The building costs (£850,000) did not include VAT so add another £150,000 plus (assuming most work done at 17.5% and not the current 20%)
So it isn’t £850,000 – it’s a £1 million olus building that’s being demolished.
Now, bearing in mind how small it is – can you see the Skypark HQ being built for a TOTAL cost of £4m including land costs and planning costs?
That was £1m 10 years ago – so that has got to be c. £1.1m now.

I wonder if EDDC leadership can be held personally accountable after the election for any cost overruns against the £4m budget?

Unfortunately not! Surcharging councillors stopped many years ago – pity!

I drove past “Skypark” today and had a look at where the proposed HQ would go. My really honest assessment, made without prejudice or wanting to score political points, is that is an inexplicable choice for a new location. It’s round the back of the airport, nowhere near anything. No shops, no public transport. An okay place for a freight depot, I suppose, but …
The only analogy I can think of is if Devon County or Exeter City Councils upped sticks and based themselves next to Makro in Marsh Barton. Or more precisely, if Exeter City Council relocated to the Heathfield Industrial Estate in Newton Abbot.
How on earth did this decision get made? Why put our democratic debating chamber in the far north-west of the district.?
The usual answer to the experienced mind is found in the question, who will gain? Any ideas, anyone?

This is mental… I just get the impression that no matter where you go in Devon the wrong things are being done. The development of the county has completely stalled, it’s regressing and the people in charge are mostly retiree’s who want to conserve and ‘prettify’ for their own benefit and their own social circle’s benefit. There isn’t anything remotely good that I’ve read that’s going on, nothing big enough to make up for the fact the majority of the county is regression.

Yes – time for a change of EDDC leadership. Do you have the time to be an East Devon councillor?
