There is an interesting tale about Adolf Hilter, who was so impressed with the splendid Rochdale Town Hall, that after winning the war he would relocate the entire Gothic edifice to Germany. There are certainly useful lessons to be learnt from Rochdale in respect to the proposed EDDC move to Honiton. Moving to a low grade land in a remote industrial estate outside Honiton will cost the council tax payer dearly. Over shadowed by a Carpet Right warehouse and opposite the cut price German store the plot has already been devalued by the mean offer from Asda. Spending £10m on a white elephant shed in such a poor quality location will most certainly result in a much reduce resale value of say £3m. It is economically naïve for EDDC to asset strip Sidmouth in order to pay for a move to a property on such low value land.
