Swire says no hospitals will be closed … how does he get that idea?

The commissioning group has given four (and only 4) options:

A) 32 beds in Tiverton, 24 beds in Seaton and 16 beds in Exmouth.
B) 32 beds in Tiverton, 24 beds in Sidmouth and 16 beds in Exmouth.
C) 32 beds in Tiverton, 24 beds in Seaton and 16 beds in Whipton.
D) 32 beds in Tiverton, 24 in Sidmouth and 16 beds in Whipton.

Swire says:

From the outset it is important to note that Devon’s NHS is currently in dire financial straits. Steps need to be taken now otherwise our local NHS could be facing a £400m deficit by 2020/2021.

Establishing a new, efficient and patient-centred model of care is absolutely vital for the long term sustainability of our local healthcare service. I am clear that a key part of any new model of care must be the provision of hospital beds.

‘It is also important to stress that the CCG are not consulting on hospital closures, they are consulting on hospital bed closures. Hospital closures are not on the table.”

NOW, LOOK AT THE FOUR OPTIONS AND TELL OWL HOW ALL THE HOSPITALS WILL BE KEPT OPEN?

To begin with, Honiton hospital isn’t mentioned – the presumption is that it will close come what may.

In Option A – Whipton, Seaton and Sidmouth go
In Option B – Seaton and Whipton go
In Option C – Sidmouth and Exmouth go
In Option D – Seaton and Exmouth go

Or, is Owl missing something?

Whatever, it is clear that Swire views our hospitals as overspent and not underfunded.

And where is that extra £350 million a week??!!

  1. Once a hospital has no beds then NHS Propery services will price it out of use and it will close. Swire is as usual being “economical” .

  2. Logic dictates that either Our Hugo is lying through his teeth or he is completely stupid and naive. Take your pick.

(My personal opinion is that he is lying through his teeth and cannot be trusted with anything – but I may be wrong and perhaps he is just an idiot – or maybe a lying idiot – or maybe he deliberately keeps himself ignorant so he has plausible deniability. Who knows??)

  3. Nice One Hugo! We in the Seaton/Axminster area need our hospitals as we are so far away from Wonford and Axminster has already lost all its beds. None of the hospitals should lose their beds or be closed. It creates much more pressure on Wonford.
So Seaton is not on your patch eh! All Hugo is interested in are votes – or lack of them hopefully next time.

  4. The closure of Honiton hospital was discussed way back in 2012 & 2014, along with many other community hospitals. I’m sure that, once the deal to return the east & mid Devon community hospitals to the RD&E Trust, the NEW CCG will close most of the community hospitals, maybe keeping Tiverton, Exmouth & Seaton.

  5. So when are we going to hear what Neil Parish has to say about the hospitals on his patch? The situation of our Devon hospitals is dire. Again it is all about the votes, all politicians are the same. They’ll say anything to grasp their votes., not really caring what happens.
