After the meeting where the DMC decided to ignore the effects of the planning application on the SSSI pebblebeds and hustle through planning permission, news reaches us that the fight is not yet over.
It is possible that a judicial review will be sought given that there seem to be numerous grounds for doing so. Should this happen, EDDC should be seriously worried as this application has been fraught with procedural ineptitude – to say the least.
The parish council has also not distinguished itself with its handling of a planning application from the biggest local landowner in the area and also faces greater scrutiny from local residents.
Yes the reasons for a review would include:
1. Flooding. The site is below sea level and in a grade 3 flood zone
2. Pebblebed Heaths SPA – potential damage to Dartford Warblers
3. No need for doctor’s surgery as stated by village plan
4. Development will remove valuable agricultural land from local area and food supply chain
5. Improvements to Footpath 1 will change character of path and cause “urbanisation” of a rural area

I heard that (via a statement by Christopher Burhap at the DMC) Matt Coppell, who has done so much recently to improve democracy within the local PC, with constructive criticism, mentoring rogue councillors and giving insightful guidance to those who will listen, is to put his life savings on the table to force a judicial review of the recent decision to grant planning permission for the King Albert Way site. Hurrah and may others follow in his footsteps. A fine example to the nay sayers who have the rhetoric but not the courage.
