Southwest sees largest growth in foregn tourists – well ahead of London

Foreign tourism up 49% in the southwest compared to 29% in London. Our biggest industry. EDDC tourism initiatives – nil. Unless you count the majority party refusing to consider supporting a decrease in VAT to stimulate it even more, even though many MPs from all parties support the move.

  1. To be fair, I think that the Exmouth Jurassic thingy could reasonably be considered a tourism initiative.

    But that is definitely not the same as broader-based initiatives to publicise East Devon as a tourist destination or to encourage tourism based businesses.

    • Then again, a letter in this week’s Pulmans View from Honiton from a tourist complaining about the closure of the public toilets at Branscombe suggests that in this instance EDDC is acting against tourism rather than to promote it.
