  1. We should realize that what ever council we have looking after our affairs, we are all in the same boat through out Devon.
The young have problems with a lack of affordable housing, the cost of renting, and a lack of money for large deposits for those wanting to buy. Those who can buy, are mostly the retired like myself, so the developers are concentrating on flats for us.
Yet we hear of our Housing Minister telling us that councils have plenty of money, and waiting lists, for housing we are told, has been cut by 50%. While at the same time we are being told that East Devon along with other local area’s, are among the most unaffordable to be able to rent. With an Election in May, we are also informed just how well our Government is doing.
We can never get to the truth of how bad or how good we are doing. Councils still spend money like no tomorrow,
Our EDDC spent £150 000 on a uni-sex toilet, after demolishing a far better one, over the last few years the amounts spent have been formidable, but ask for an extra dog bin, for a footpath, it is like getting blood from a stone.
We say we want more tourists to come to the West Country, but our highways are littered with rubbish at the side of the roads.
The Election can not come quick enough, things have to change in East Devon, and Claire Wright could be a start.

  2. A few years ago we got in touch with South Hams about affordable house for an article on our PRSD site (www.theprsd.co.uk). At that time they didn’t know what ‘affordable housing’ meant. At least now they do and are willing to call the government out.
