One who spends his time with his Big Business buddies all over the world with precious little time for his constituency, who makes tasteless jokes about expensive cars, Greeks and people on benefits at a £15,000 per table fundraiser and who has no idea whatsoever about the devastation being wreaked on East Devon by his government’s planning rules? If so, feel free to vote for this man:
Or you might you vote for someone who refuses to be the mouthpiece for big business, instead promises to support the local small to medium businesses, to fight for and protect the NHS in her area and has a solid record of objecting to the most devastating planning policies that this district has ever seen – Claire Wright.
Here she is drawing crowds at Ottery St Mary, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, canvassing in Eastern Exeter
and there are many more pictures of her at smaller locations and venues on her website, talking to people and basing her Manifesto on what they told her they needed to happen in this district:
See and hear her speak:

Is this man for real? Was he ever for real? He still doesn’t get it does he: we don’t NEED or WANT a man who thinks that influence is what voters crave (though it has served him pretty well so far – got him into St Andrews for just one year, the Guards for a couple of years and the family firm after that).
Voters want REAL LOCALISM – local issues being represented in Parliament by a local MP who knows the local area and knows the local problems – not a man who still thinks that “Budleigh-Salterton” is a real place and who only turns up at a village under seige from developers when he thinks it might lose him votes.
And as for that picture! Does he really think that he will “influence” undecided voters by trying to look like The Messiah (though perhaps only the Life of Brian version)!
I am just sorry that I don’t live in his constituency so that I could vote for ANYONE else! Though specifically someone who REALLY lives in East Devon and isn’t just visiting from London or Shropshire.

Sandra – You may not be aware of it, but if you lived in Hugo’s constituency as I do, then you have a real choice of someone else who does know the constituency really well, who does care about local issues and who will represent the constituents with energy and enthusiasm and a huge amount of integrity.
Her name is Claire Wright and she will be getting my vote.

The photograph shown above is very like one recently placed on the Conservative notice board outside McColls shop at West Hill. It will be seen that Hugo Swire is described as “MP”. Since parliament was dissolved, he is NOT an MP; he is merely the Conservative candidate to become the next MP for the East Devon constituency. Is this local Conservative party ignorance of the rules? Or sharp practice?

Interestingly, I don’t see any imprint on this piece of printed election literature… which is akin to a poster on public display…
Thanks to East Devon Conservatives for not abiding by the rules, as Mr Giles points out above… File that away under ” Do as we say, not do as we do “
