MPs will see their salaries rise by almost £1,000 after the parliamentary pay watchdog signed off another increase. …
… The £952 rise comes just months after the body pushed through a controversial 10 per cent salary increase despite opposition from some MPs and trade unions. …
… It will take the basic wage for all 650 MPs to £74,962 a year, with ministers earning up to another £68,000 on top of that.
“MPs salaries are now automatically linked to average public sector pay. The provisional 1.3 per cent figure will be confirmed by the ONS in a month’s time.”
Tell that to Devon County Council employees who will be being made redundant due to “austerity” cuts. Their “pay rise” will be minus 100%.
There is nothing to stop parliament overturning this decision and refusing the pay rise. But I really can’t see MPs voting for their trough NOT to be enlarged.
