Dear Owl,
I thought you and your readers may not be aware of this fact about second homes and holiday lets.
Real estate firm Colliers estimate that in Cornwall 12,065 holiday let properties DO NOT PAY either business rates or council tax.
Local authorities miss out on millions as holiday let crackdown backfires (telegraph.co.uk)
You can bet that Devon figures are not far behind!
Just think of the difference it would make to the budgets of local authorities if these people paid all those taxes and business rates that others pay, it could make a significant difference to all the vulnerable, disabled, homeless who suffer from the cuts to necessary services. It could make lives better for so many people.
It’s the same old story. It is a system that should be ended. Make them pay up.
Why does the government ignore this? I wonder why!
