Why do those in receipt of a state pension get such a bad rap?
Not all are receiving the full New State Pension and some receive a private/works pension that they had to pay into.
Should we compare it to the National Living Wage? Let’s assume the minimum wage to be £10 per hour and the employee works 40 hours a week. That would be a weekly income of £400 compared to a new state pension of £221. Most pensioners receiving a private pension in addition would probably still not match those in work on the minimum wage. The rent, power, food etc costs the same for everyone. Maybe the Triple Lock should be replaced by matching the minimum wage.
