High Court action to protect wetlands – including River Axe

“Conservationists and angling organisations are taking the Government to the High Court over the protection of precious rivers and wetlands, including in the Westcountry.

The World Wildlife Fund, the Angling Trust and Fish Legal have accused the Environment Department, Defra, and the Environment Agency of “dragging its feet”.

They say that despite legally committing to ensure 44 sites across the country were healthy this year ministers have stifled action to address harmful pollution from farms.

The groups are seeking a judicial review in a bid to protect the rivers, lakes and coastal areas from further damage.

Among the list are special areas of conservation, including Plymouth Sound Estuaries, the River Axe and the River Camel.”

  1. I do wish we could take EDDC to court so we could address the harm they are intending to do along the back of the sea front at Queens drive where we have so much greenery that has been underestimated in the amount of wild-life that is so clearly evident in the play area’s which are little used in winter.
We put up with all the austere cuts, and the fact that our EDDC will use Lawyers costing over two hundred pounds an hour, to fight any case they feel would be detrimental to their idea’s which will mean filling the whole of the area of the master plan with what ever they can get the best return which no doubt be sell-able retail units and apartments on top for the best sea views.
But the cost of adventure play parks used by 10 year old’s will never cover the kind of money the council wish to make, so those business people who have served children for years will be forced out and nobody can do anything about it, our sea front will be sold and Exmouth will not benefit from it.
