Good luck with that, good people of Exmouth – EDDC’s default position in such cases is to go with the views of the 5%, which includes the views of their favourite people of all time – developers.

It is worth making a couple of points about public surveys in Exmouth.
Because past EDDC surveys have been so lacking in impartiality and methodological reliability, EDDC have been asked whether any of their staff involved in constructing and conducting their surveys, have recognised professional qualifications in the field of research methods. They have always ducked the question by answering another and saying that their staff have the necesary qualifications for their posts. It seems reasonable to assume, from the lack of reliability, and EDDC’s answer, that in the science research methods they are amateurs.
The survey conducted by Independent Councillor Armstrong was carefully analysed by someone who holds a Master’s degree in Research and who provides a full and referenced explanation of the methodology employed.
A letter in the Exmouth Journal today draws to a close with the comments ” EDDC does not listen. Its public consultations are perceived to be worthless”.
The survey conducted by Cllr Armstrong had more responses that both of EDDC’s put together. ( EDDC’s 507 and 518 compared to Cllr Armstrong’s 1200 plus) Seems people trust Independents.
EDDC councillors and officers have talked in public, about there being a public survey to come in relation to the proposals for Queen’s Drive Area. Some of the public have fallen for the spin and believe that there might indeed be a genuine consultation. A few others have ascertained that EDDC have no intention of arranging an independent survey, the only one to take place will be that which developers are required to carry out before submitting a planning application.
