Alison Hernandez said at her swearing in (reported on BBC Spotlight this evening) that she is “here to support the police”.
NO SHE IS NOT!
“The role of the PCCs is to be the voice of the people and hold the police to account. They are responsible for the totality of policing. PCCs aim to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service within their force area.”
Ms. Hernandez was possibly not telling the truth.
In my opinion her real agenda is to represent the Conservative Party and ensure that:
a. Tory party policies on policing are implemented in Devon and Cornwall (regardless of the consequences); and
b. D&CP does not embarrass the Tory party.
To give Tony Hogg credit where it is due, he never let his membership of the Tory party get in the way of doing what he felt was right (remember his analysis showing that the government’s funding formula was wrong) – and in the end he felt that he had to resign from the Tory party because of their attitude towards policing. However his background was not as a true-blue party hack, he had some relevant experience and he wasn’t tainted with accusations of fraud – whereas Ms Hernandez is the exact opposite.
Given that Ms Hernandez appears not to have the honour and integrity to stand aside whilst the accusations of election fraud she is alleged to have perpetrated are investigated, I cannot see her EVER having the same honour and integrity as Tony Hogg to resign her party membership.
