LEP grabs local transport

Jones and Ledbetter … again, now taking charge of local transport, including rail and road. Is there no pie these two people don’t now have their fingers in? Will all roads and rail end up at Hinkley Point? Will there be anything left for county and district councils to decide?

Here is Jones’s Register of Interests:

Unfortunately the link to Ledbetter’s interests is not live and it took 10 minutes of digging through the DCC website to find this scrawled document:

Can people be too involved in too many things?

  1. To be honest, I can see why Andrew Ledbetter thinks that local transport i better handled by the LEP.

    1. He doesn’t have to go through all that bureaucracy of council committees and debates and votes and stuff to get things done;

    2. He doesn’t have to cope with all those other councillors who think they know better than him about what is needed and then have to persuade enough of them to get his own way;

    3. He doesn’t have to deal with member of the public sticking their noses in and disrupting his carefully considered plans;

    4. It supports his party’s agenda for “devolution” and LEPs, and to remove responsibilities from county councils.

    So on this basis it is “obviously” far better for LEPs to run local transport, isn’t it?
