Hernandez “unavailable” to comment on Devon and Cornwall policing crisis.

Spotlight reported tonight on a crisis in Devon and Cornwall Policing. A survey of police officers revealed an overstretched and underfunded force, demoralised and angry.

The Chief Constable was interviewed and he agreed that the force is in crisis and they need more police on the beat.

And where was our selfie-loving Police and Crime Commissioner?

“Unavailable for comment”.

Her Chief Executive, Andrew White was wheeled out instead and basically refused to say if more police officers would be or could be funded.

Funny how she turns up for publicity shots and disappears when anything turns up that isn’t just publicity …

  1. If memory serves me correctly, the previous PCC Tony Hogg fought the Conservative Government, pointing out that the funding formula / calculations they were using were incorrect (by which I mean wrong – producing the wrong amount of money to fund D&CP) and eventually he resigned from the Conservative Party in protest at what was happening.

But at least he had the integrity to fight his own party’s government and the integrity to resign his membership in protest. Which is far more than we can say for Alison Hernandez who is a lightweight politician at best, and a true party hack who will never rock the boat at worst.

Oh, sorry. Being a true party hack who won’t rock the boat isn’t the worst – remember, the worst is that she is currently being investigated for a criminal allegation of election fraud.

So, to be honest, taking a selfie with a hunky fire chief whilst the worst fire in the region in a very long time rages behind her hardly qualifies as that much of a sin, however insensitive.
