Tourism: MP says “East Devon does nothing”

Cutting VAT for tourism and investing in transport infrastructure were among the demands MPs heard from businesses in Devon when they came to Exeter to hear views on how to boost the sector.

The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee held a panel discussion at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum on Monday, January 12, to hear views on tourism in the South West.

[Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw said] … “Exeter City Council does what it can, but East Devon does nothing. There’s nobody coordinating it.”

  1. Before his resignation, the Tourism Champion on EDDC was Graham Brown, and since his resignation it has been Sheila Kerridge.

It would be interesting to know what Cllr Kerridge can list as activities she has proactively undertaken in order to promote tourism in East Devon

  2. Unless we put these things on the agenda, Tourism will always take a back seat, In Exmouth our EDDC think that spending millions on a a new leisure complex will bring all those extra visitors into Exmouths sea front, This will never happen until they improve the Town and it’s inefficient road system and smarten it all up, we have waste containers and dustbins along most walkways, our pavements are loose and environmentally unfriendly. On our sea front which is two miles long we have just one Beach shower , and the whole esplanade has some 30 house-hold dustbins placed all along the sea front. New development has no proper storage for waste or recycling, what street lighting we have is rusting away for the lack of care. need i go on.
