Sidmouth Streetscene, Easter 2015

Sidmouth Streetscene Easter 2015

A correspondent writes: Streetscene at East Devon District Council are responsible for emptying litter bins and keeping streets and footpaths clear of litter. This is how they dealt with things over the Easter Bank Holiday 2015. Surely our Sidmouth District Councillors should insist that this is better managed?

  1. I am sure that our East weekend tourists will be extolling the virtues of Sidmouth after witnessing such a Streetscene – NOT!!

So much for EDDC’s commitment to encouraging tourism – yet another example of how out of touch current EDDC leadership is with the realities of the local economy.

  2. As Chairman of the Exmouth Tidy Group i can see that these much trumpeted Big Belly Bins are not working as intended !!!!! . They are supposed to send a signal when full to Streetscene who can then send a member of staff to empty them . They are remotely monitored and give info’ on usage etc . Looks like another shambles to me 😉 .

  3. When the cost is taken into consideration, it must be said that it is vital that we the public are informed what the purpose of this expensive outlay hopes to achieve.
After reading the Journals letter page of August 2013 when a district council spokesman said: There are plenty of waste bins and there is no lack of facilities on Exmouth Sea Front. Surely with all these Big Belly Bins, there must have been a good reason for having them this year.
The fact that the council increased the sea front facilities in 2014 by having a £1,000 quad -litter station at the Octagon shows what they had, was not going to be adequate.
Now we have these new bins for the 2015 season, they need to be advertised in the same way as EDDC was telling us how much they were doing back in 2013 so to alleviate the litter problem, and because of the cost make sure they work as intended.
All those outdated bins should be made well and truly redundant, and the new Belly Bins cover their own cost, and are positioned in the area’s most needed.
