Before the lights go out…..

Enjoy what’s left of the summer

“Of course, I will look at what more can be done. But the way I would do things is in a Conservative way of lowering the tax burden, not giving out handouts.” Liz Truss to Financial times 6 August

I am sure that is a great comfort for those who don’t earn enough to pay tax but still have to heat their home.

The gist of this statement is that the “Conservative way” is ALWAYS to benefit those who are well off enough to pay tax and simply disregard anyone unfortunate enough to be in poverty.

My message to all Conservative Voters is: You had better hope that you never fall on hard times. 30 years ago I was made redundant and I found out just how narrow the gap is between paying the bills and losing your home. And today, thanks to decades of neoliberalism and Conservative policies that gap is a tiny fraction of the size it was then. (And that, is of course the whole point of Conservativism – to keep the general population in line, so that their fat-cat friends and party donors can continue to expand the wealth gap and live the high life. And I say that as someone who voted Tory for most of my working life – I was a selfish and deluded turkey voting for xmas.)
