Emailing your councillor? Perhaps not!

  1. Not just North Devon. I have emailed my ruling party councillors several times. One is usually good at responding, another didn’t really answer the last question put and the third didn’t bother at all last time I emailed her, not even an acknowledgement. On a previous occasion the third did reply, saying she had explained her reasons for voting one way previoulsy and wasn’t going to do it again. I have no idea where that first explanation was! That hasn’t stopped her saying she represents her electors when it suits.

  2. Unfortunately my experience has not been a good one, when the assumption would be that a councilor should answer their E/mails from constituents. It seems they are gratified if the content is in no way contradictory to the party line, if it is in any way a disagreement such as the new plans for Queens Drive, you will be very lucky to get any sort of a reply.
Which at the last Election, Conservative leaflets were saying they were opposing any new large development on our sea front.

  3. And not just councillors either.

My experiences of emailing my MP are not good. Of my first several emails to Hugo Swire MP, he only replied to one and that reply was to someone else’s question not mine.

When will our elected representatives start to recognise that THEY WORK FOR US.
