Did anyone else know about this? Is it a Stuart Hughes idea? If not, who? And why? And why hasn’t Stuart Hughes publicised it in a funny suit or video? And why can’t the rest of us avail ourselves of this useful perk? Imagine how much it would save in parking fees.
“Permits allowing drivers to park on double yellow lines for just £5 a day have been made available in Devon. The scheme is open to business owners, landlords and contractors”.
Funny, but I thought that the purpose of double yellow lines was to stop people parking there BECAUSE IT WOULD BE DANGEROUS or be an OBSTRUCTION to other traffic. How can it be sensible to sell parking permits for people to park where it is dangerous or they will cause an obstruction?
1. What liabilities will the council have if someone is injured or killed as a consequence of someone parking with such a permit? Or will the permit holder still be liable even though he has had permission from EDDC? Or will they both be able successfully to argue that it is the other’s fault with the consequence that the person injured or killed cannot get compensation?
2. Will the council be checking that the applicants actually are landlords / contractors or business owners? Will they be checking that they own property or a business or have a formal contract to work within a few yards of where they are permitted to park? Or can anyone claim to be a business owner etc. and park anywhere in East Devon?
This has got to rate up there with the best (or worst) of EDDC’s money grabbing ideas!!
