The problem is that EDDC don’t benefit much from business rates, and where they do it is a given. They don’t have to work for it. Whereas, a bit like car park charging, this is a nice little earner from fees and consultations and an encouragement to sell licenses. Why invest in the big industries – tourism and agriculture when it makes little difference to the income? And in these hard up times we have to get in money to pay for life’s little extravagances
And the more pressure on small local businesses struggling as it is. Let’s see street traders paying business rates eh?
