  1. How can we help in encouraging more Tourist into the West Country with out spending loads of cash on commercial advertising. Well we should adopt a star system for each individual area, much as restaurants and hotels have.
This should be based on Councils ability to show a reasonable amount of facilities, parking, and a nice environment.
People do come for outstanding sea side surroundings rather then expecting leisure parks. Toilets and well appointed cafe’s, along side clean beaches, are most important. When leaving a motor way, it is vital that huge amounts of rubbish is not what people see all along the turn offs to any tourist destination. A council should lose a star if verges are as bad as ours. When leaving the Exeter turn off, it is all covered with litter and the fault of uncaring people, unless we can get these things right, then a glowing tourist magazine showing how lovely Devon is, can becomes just a giant waste of money.
