  1. I suppose they were always going to do this. I remember that five years ago they had a really good candidate, giving hope that with hard work and a positive national trend they could bring off a shock. Unfortunately the local campaign was so pathetic that I failed to see one decent hit scored on Hugo, whose victory was comfortable enough in the end. The good candidate resigned from the party on principal following the betrayal of all those who voted for them when little Cleggie went off to fag for the big boys.
Now they give progressives another opportunity to waste their votes, which could be given to a determined local candidate who is already making Hugo sweat and has scored more hits already than the ‘official local opposition’ managed in 2010 and with a much more determined support team.
There are some decent and effective local LibDem councillors; Steve Gazzard, the Wraggs, and for many years Trevor Cope before he also resigned on principal. I am sure there are others. However as a group they have been useless and spineless meaning that despite the efforts of those named the tories have got off scot free over every deceit.
