Four of the Swire family holding companies feature in the Panama Papers and Swire is in record as saying that he thinks full tax disclosures for MPs should not be required.

When asked about whether he or his family have offshore trusts or similar, Hugo is also on record getting very angry about the impertinence of such a question rather than issuing a simple denial – the assumption then being that he or his family do use offshore trusts or similar to (legally) avoid paying their share of tax.
However, the point of this particular post seems to me that…
If Hugo (as a Minister of State in the Foreign Office) is involved in any way, shape or form with discussions about tax havens, then in order to avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest in those discussions, he needs to be completely transparent about whether he or his family have direct or even indirect benefits from such places.
In other words we don’t want angry blusters, we want transparency so that we know he is acting in OUR interests and not HIS (or his families) own interests.
