Swire – which hand do you talk to when he holds opposing views at the same time!

BBC Devon – Martyn Oates repeats Swire tweet:

East Devon MP @HugoSwire: “We are using the NHS as a very expensive social care service and then asking it to make efficiencies”.

1. It’s you, not we – you, Mr Swire will rarely if ever need to use the NHS as you can easily afford private health and social care.

2. THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR IN PARLIAMENT AND YOUR BLOG SAYS EFFICIENCIES ARE POSSIBLE.

  1. Let’s not confuse “efficiencies” (achieving the same quality of service with less money) with “cuts” (saving money but resulting in lower levels of service).

Even before the money saving starts, we are already hearing multiple examples of reductions in service quality. So it beggars belief that we can achieve the eye-watering levels of saving that the Conservatives are demanding without major further reductions in service quality.

And let’s not forget that the NHS has already been promised £8bn in additional funding as a manifesto promise before the last general election and before Brexit, and a further £350m PER WEEK by the Leave campaign if they won the Brexit referendum – which of course they did – neither of which has actually materialised. So these cuts come on top of this £23bn of funding that was promised but never happened.

But, the real question that needs answering is what the Conservatives real agenda for the NHS is because it is clear that there is one, that it is being kept secret, and that the government has already decided what it wants and it is going to plough ahead with it regardless of the outcome of the flimsy consultation exercises they have to undertake by law.
