Flash: PM expected in Devon today was this in response to a letter in the times?

DevonLive is reporting that Andy Burnham is visiting Devon today.

The writer of the Times letter has contacted Owl saying she hopes so.

She also says she followed up the letter with an email to the Prime Minister as follows:

Dear Prime Minister,

I hope your office drew your attention to my letter published in The Times on Monday  10/08/2026, concerning my wish that you visit Ilfracombe, Devon, on your tour of the country.

I note that you have visited Bath in the South West but this is an area totally sophisticated in contrast to the rural towns and villages of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, many of which, like Ilfracombe, are struggling.

I also beg you to reconsider the proposed devolution solution for Devon as I cannot see how this could possibly help revitalise Ilfracombe, concentrating all efforts into Plymouth and Exeter. It leaves the rural rump, half a million people, spread over a huge area with no central focal point.

Nicola Daniel.

Ahead of his visit he released the following message:

Local businesses are the beating heart of our communities, bringing life to the places we call home.We are helping pubs, social clubs and live music venues by cutting their business rates, but I’ve always said there is more to do.I’m listening to small business owners so we can work together to deliver jobs and growth in every postcode.

Anyone seen him? – Owl
