  1. Bear in mind that Development Management Committee is a non-political decision-making committee. We looked at the application, debated the merits of the proposal and then voted according to conscience.

    I wasn’t happy with the type of affordable housing proposed which did not reflect the defined need of Newton Poppleford and was grouped in one corner of the site rather than being ‘pepper-potted’ across the development.

    The principle of development on the King Alfred Way site had already been approved in 2014. The meeting last week was to look at the detail.

    • It was about independent councillors who took the time to research the issue and pointed out why the decisions needed to be made. Their input was crucial to the debate and decision.

  2. Bear in mind that Development Management Committee is not in any way political. We looked at the facts and voted according to conscience. I wasn’t happy that the proposed affordable housing did not reflect the defined need of Newton Poppleford.

    The site had previously been approved for 40 homes. The item on the agenda last week was for reserved matters, i.e. the detail of layout etc.
